Copycats around the world

POSTCARDS | NOV 17

A humorous postcard coming your way! All about some funny dupes spotted in Nepal.

I always find it fascinating when I see dupes that are imitations of businesses (e.g. Yak Donalds) rather than products (e.g. fucci, aka fake Gucci) because I wonder behind the reasoning behind it (here’s that business degree coming in). Is it because they think it’s humorous and has its own marketing appeal? Is it because they believe they can make the same product but better? Is it because it’s too expensive or resource extensive to open a franchise in a different country?

Personally I believe it’s the power of brand. Brand is intangible yet so important as is what draws us, the consumers, to certain businesses. When we see a familiar brand, it attracts and catches our attention and maybe it holds our attention for long enough where we take a step forward to see if the fucci is really as good as the Gucci.

Do you think I can use my Costco membership here?

A version of my dad’s favorite restaurant - he can tell us how it stands up compared to the Edison location, apparently the Burger King with the best Whopper.

This one nearly fooled me - the font and the neon icons are exactly the same! Unfortunately there is no Shake Shack here.

One of my first jobs was working as a cashier at McDonalds, but I don’t think my McFlurry skills would work here.
